Mangrove Yellow WarblerSetophaga petechia
- ORDER: Passeriformes
- FAMILY: Parulidae
Basic Description
Adult male Mangrove Yellow Warblers are bright yellow songbirds with a bold chestnut hood or crown. True to their name, they flit through mangroves and adjacent coastal scrub, where they forage for insects and spiders. They do not migrate, and they sing year-round to maintain territories. Females are more variable—ranging from bright yellow to grayish—and can be hard to separate from closely related Northern Yellow Warblers, which sometimes spend their winters in mangroves.
