Warblers
Tropical ParulaSetophaga pitiayumi
- ORDER: Passeriformes
- FAMILY: Parulidae
Basic Description
The Tropical Parula is a blur of color and energy as it darts in and out of view in lush canopy foliage. This small warbler, found from South Texas to northern Argentina, is steely blue-gray above and intense yellow-orange below, with one or two white wingbars (some plumage details vary across its range). Males sport a black mask and sing a fast trilled or buzzy song as they move about. Tropical Parulas feed mainly on insects and nest in moss balls and other epiphytes.
