Songs

Both sexes sing, with male having a lower-pitched song than female. Song is typically a series of rapidly delivered two-syllable coos, with a very short introductory note followed by a much longer second note: “cu-WHOOP cu-WHOOP cu-WHOOP cu-WHOOP….” At a distance, the introductory note is inaudible, resulting in a fast-paced series of whoop notes.

Other Sounds

Like many doves, this species makes a whirring sound when it takes flight from the ground. Male produces a sound by clapping his wings together in a courtship display.
