Calls

Calls are extremely similar to the sounds of Mallard. The female tends to be more vocal than the male, delivering a classic duck's quack. Female also gives a “decrescendo” call to indicate her location. It consists of a series of calls that diminish in volume, length, and pitch. Male's quack is softer and raspier than the female's.

Other Sounds

When displaying, the male makes a rattling sound by rubbing his bill against his flight feathers.
