Yellow-fronted CanaryCrithagra mozambica
- ORDER: Passeriformes
- FAMILY: Fringillidae
Basic Description
The Yellow-fronted Canary is a small, social finch. Large flocks often forage on the ground for seeds and insects. Adult males have bold black lines on the head that contrast with brilliant yellow on the face and underparts. Females and immatures share the same pattern but with more subdued colors. Common and widespread in its native Africa, this canary’s bright colors and cheery song have made it a popular cage bird, which in turn led to its introduction in the Hawaiian Islands.
