Basic Description
The Yellow-billed Cardinal is an eye-catching songbird of South America's Pantanal region and neighboring areas. Adults have an orange-yellow bill, blackish upperparts, and a gleaming white collar that sets off a glowing red head. This species—a member of the tanager family—frequently forages on the ground or in shrubby vegetation along the edges of marshes, lakes, and rivers. Yellow-billed Cardinals are also at home around people, visiting populated areas in both its native South America and on the island of Hawaii, where it was introduced around 1930.
