Vega GullLarus vegae
- ORDER: Charadriiformes
- FAMILY: Laridae
Basic Description
The Vega Gull has all the markings of a classic gray-and-white “seagull”—black wingtips, pink legs, and a sturdy yellow bill. Like the closely related American Herring Gull, Vega Gull is largely coastal, preying on fish, seabirds, and other marine life. It may also venture inland to forage in fields and garbage dumps or to nest on buildings. Vega Gull is an East Asian species, but it breeds at one site in Alaska and on rare occasions vagrant individuals turn up elsewhere in North America.
