Feeds primarily on berries and also eats insects, spiders, and flower parts.

A plump thrush endemic to the island of Hawaii. Adult has gray underparts and brown upperparts.

Often perches motionless for extended periods of time.

Juvenile has dark brown upperparts with buffy scalloping and whitish underparts with black feather tips.

Both sexes deliver loud songs and calls year-round.

Occurs mainly in wet native forest above 1,000 meters (3,300 feet) elevation, only on the island of Hawaii.
