Songs

Songs from male Chihuahuan Meadowlarks consist of 3–5 descending whistles, sometimes introduced by a short, low-pitched note. Chihuahuan Meadowlark songs are lower pitched than Eastern Meadowlark songs and are the best way to differentiate the two species.

Calls

The most common Chihuahuan Meadowlark call is a short, buzzy “dzert” call, slightly harsher and lower than Eastern Meadowlarks’ “dzert” call. Both sexes of Chihuahuan Meadowlark give a rattle-like “chatter” call when excited.
