Basic Description

The Bulwer’s Petrel is one of the world’s least known seabird species. These small, all-dark petrels spend most of their lives at sea, coming ashore only to breed on remote volcanic islands scattered across the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. They nest in colonies, with the largest numbering 100,000 breeding pairs, but are mostly solitary when out at sea. Bulwer’s Petrels forage in warm ocean waters, typically feeding on bioluminescent fish that come to the surface at night.
