Songs

A rapid, undulating, highly variable song with a rich, burbling quality lasting about 3 seconds. The song—sometimes given from the nest—is usually delivered by males, but females are known to sing. Western Warbling Vireo song is typically higher pitched and a bit more jumbled than Eastern Warbling Vireo song. The highest note in an Eastern song is usually the final note, whereas Western song includes higher notes throughout the song.

Calls

Western Warbling Vireos use many calls, particularly a raspy, descending scold call as well as a low spitting note. Females sometimes give a courtship call in a loose duet with the male.
